The Shack

Thanks for setting a precedent Pedro....
My “book blog” was coming... eventually... but since my husband has decided to speak of his, I will speak of mine.

The Shack... this is the book I currently have my nose stuck in...
(Ah, fulfilling New Years Rez No. 02). I am not ashamed to say that YES, like every other tween on the planet I read the Twilight Series and loved it, but The Shack is a whole other ball game.

Amidst his Great Sadness, Mack receives a letter from (who he thinks) God. You see, Mack’s daughter Missy was abducted 3 years back while they were on a family camping trip. Missy’s blood stained dress was found in an abandoned shack deep in the woods, miles from where they were camping. The letter that Mack receives simply says: “It’s been a while. I’ve missed you. I’ll be at the shack next weekend if you want to get together. – Papa” (Papa is what Nan (Mack’s wife) refers to God as.)
He ends up going back to the Shack... and I don’t want to give too much away but God is portrayed as a big black woman... Now I know this sounds unrealistic and maybe a little bit strange, but the book is incredible.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite excerpts from the book:

God speaking
“Mack, I am neither male nor female, even though both genders are derived from my nature. If I choose to appear to you as a man or a woman, it’s because I love you. For me to appear to you as a woman and suggest that you call me Papa is simply to mix metaphors, to help you keep from falling so easily back to your religious conditioning.”

Oh Lord, snap me out of my religious conditioning!

Peace, Love, Him...
